– Seth Rollins did the impossible at WWE Super ShowDown. At WWE Stomping Grounds, he’ll have to do it again.
Less than three weeks after retaining his Universal Championship in Jeddah by defeating Baron Corbin, then fending off Brock Lesnar’s Money in the Bank cash-in attempt by drilling The Beast with a vicious low blow and raining down a barrage of steel chair strikes, Rollins will be in a nearly identical situation. At WWE Stomping Grounds, Rollins must defend his championship against the dangerous Lone Wolf while looking over his shoulder for “Mr. Beast in the Bank.” And this time, Corbin has been given the right to select a Special Guest Referee for the matchup.
If anyone can do it, it’s The Beastslayer, who has been on the biggest roll of his WWE career in 2019, winning the Men’s Royal Rumble, slaying The Beast at WrestleMania to capture the Universal Championship, and retaining it in barnburners against AJ Styles and Corbin. After succeeding in his mission to turn the red brand into “Monday Night Rollins” with an abundance of show-stealing matches, Rollins will attempt to finally silence the outspoken Lone Wolf by Stomping him into oblivion and maintaining his iron grip on the title.
The hot-tempered Corbin seemingly has no one to blame but himself for his loss to Rollins, as the former Raw General Manager-Elect spent a significant amount of the title fight arguing with referee John Cone after coming within an eyelash of winning the championship on several occasions. Doing so gave the ever-opportunistic Architect the brief opening he needed to stun The Lone Wolf with a roll-up for the 1-2-3, though Corbin tattooed the Universal Champion with a ring-rattling End of Days after the bout, leaving Rollins susceptible to a potential cash-in from Lesnar.
Even if Rollins gets past the former United States Champion in what is certain to be a grueling championship collision, Lesnar could be lurking nearby. And while The Beast hasn’t appeared to be in a hurry to cash in his contract – instead choosing to let the sword of Damocles dangle over the head of The Beastslayer (and even WWE Champion Kofi Kingston to a lesser extent) – a likely still-seething Lesnar could be champing at the bit to end Rollins’ reign after being embarrassed by him at WWE Super ShowDown.
Who will walk out of the Tacoma Dome with the Universal Title? Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network to find out!# WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler (Steel Cage Match)
– At WWE Stomping Grounds, Dolph Ziggler will again challenge for Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship, but unlike their last intense title clash, the rematch will take place inside the unforgiving confines of a steel cage.
Ziggler demanded the rematch and the steely stipulation in the immediate aftermath of his loss to The Dreadlocked Dynamo at WWE Super ShowDown. Kingston’s triumph wasn’t without controversy, as his New Day brother-in-arms, Xavier Woods, superkicked Ziggler during in the bout’s waning moments. Some members of the WWE Universe might argue Woods’ actions were warranted — the kick was in retaliation for an unprovoked attack by Ziggler moments earlier — but The Showoff saw the interference as nothing more than a desperation move, with Woods doing Kingston’s dirty work for him.
By demanding the rematch be fought inside a steel cage, Ziggler has guaranteed that the scenario will not repeat itself at WWE Stomping Grounds. There will be no outside interference, only two world-class Superstars — one the defending champion who’s living out his dream, the other a bitter and dangerous challenger who’s ascended the mountaintop before. And lest it be forgotten, the steel cage will do more than keep intruders at bay; it will also be a perfectly legal weapon for Kingston and Ziggler to use to grind each other to a pulp, all in the name of championship glory.
Tune in to this high-stakes and high-risk championship battle when WWE Stomping Grounds streams live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT, exclusively on the award-winning WWE Network.# Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans
– It’s becoming clear to Becky Lynch and the rest of the WWE Universe that Lacey Evans isn’t going away anytime soon. Despite falling short in her first Raw Women’s Championship opportunity at WWE Money in the Bank, The Sassy Southern Belle has persistently hounded The Irish Lass Kicker, meaning she’ll soon get her immaculate hands on a second one at WWE Stomping Grounds.
That might appear to be a bold reward for a Superstar whose victories have been largely moral. But Evans has been a consistent thorn in the side of Becky Lynch, who by her own admission was too “content” in the wake of her historic WrestleMania victory to properly protect her Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. Evans took advantage of that comfort, contributing to Becky’s loss of the blue title — a championship that, for now, at least, seems beyond The Man’s reach — but Lynch didn’t let herself off the hook and has slowly pieced together back the hunger that carried her to the mountaintop.
Seen in that light, Evans’ second opportunity doesn’t just make sense; it seems like ample reward. By continually targeting and getting the better of Lynch, she brought the best back out of a champion who could have just as easily plateaued. The Lady of WWE brought Becky Lynch back to fight. It’s only fitting she gets what she deserves.
Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss
– At the first-ever WWE Stomping Grounds, Bayley will defend her SmackDown’s Women’s Title against a Superstar that is no stranger to the gold, the incomparable Alexa Bliss. But The Goddess won’t be alone, as Nikki Cross will be in her corner for the match.
Moments after Charlotte Flair regained her SmackDown’s Women’s Championship from Becky Lynch at WWE Money in the Bank to become a nine-time Woman’s Champion, Bayley cashed in her newly-acquired Money in the Bank contract and defeated The Queen to seize the blue brand title.
Although tension built between the new titleholder and The Queen in the weeks that followed, Five Feet of Fury would not be denied. The five-time Women’s Champion walked into a Triple Threat Match against Flair and Carmella on the June 4 episode of SmackDown LIVE and walked out with an opportunity to get her title back.
When the two decorated Superstars square off, it won’t be all hugs. But without a doubt, the WWE Universe is in for a truly explosive encounter from start to finish.
Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
– At WWE Stomping Grounds, Roman Reigns will look to stomp Drew McIntyre into oblivion for the simple reason that he is associated with Shane McMahon.
After The Scottish Psychopath aided Shane-O-Mac for weeks in his quest to bring Reigns to his knees in retaliation for the former WWE Champion slugging Mr. McMahon with a Superman Punch, The Big Dog decided to double down on his already-scheduled battle against Shane at WWE Super ShowDown by choosing to face McIntyre two weeks later.
But, is Reigns biting off more than he can chew when he faces the same man that he narrowly bested at WrestleMania? After all, it was McIntyre’s help that allowed Shane to prevail in their brutal encounter in Jeddah. Considering how dangerous McIntyre is when his adversary is at full strength, will Reigns possible have enough left to survive?
Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, Sunday, June 23, streaming live at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# United States Champion Samoa Joe vs. Ricochet
– At WWE Stomping Grounds, the up-and-coming Ricochet will challenge United States Champion Samoa Joe in a title fight that is sure to be an absolute barn burner from start to finish.
As recent weeks have showed, the United States Championship picture is wide open, perhaps more so for the star-spangled title than for any other championship. Rey Mysterio defeated Joe in controversial fashion at WWE Money in the Bank by securing the 1-2-3 when Joe’s shoulder was clearly off the mat to take the championship, but The Master of the 619 forfeited the title back to Joe after sustaining an injury.
Soon after being christened the new U.S. Champion, Joe was confronted by a wave of prospective challengers, as Ricochet, Cesaro, Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley and The Miz all attempted to secure a title bout.
A wild brawl on “Miz TV” led to an impromptu Six-Man Tag Team Match between the titleholder and the five men looking to challenge Joe, bringing tensions to a boiling point. A similar atmosphere permeated through the WWE Universe the following week during a chaotic Fatal 5-Way Match to determine Joe’s next opponent for the U.S Title. Out of fray came the explosive Ricochet and the potential for an intense showdown.
Time to let the fists fly at WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live this Sunday at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery
– At WWE Stomping Grounds, SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan will battle the newly-crowned Yolo County Tag Team Champions Otis & Tucker.
Bryan & Rowan have had Otis & Tucker on their radar ever since the dynamic up-and-comers issued a challenge for their illustrious titles three weeks ago. However, they stalled on giving Blue Collar Solid a title opportunity, instead opting to mock the duo by saying that they won’t be receiving a title match because Otis is “extraterrestrial.”
In response, Heavy Machinery sent a strong message to the titleholders on the June 13 edition of SmackDown LIVE by demolishing the Yolo County Tag Team Champions. But, will they be able to ride their momentum all the way to the blue brand’s tag team titles in their first title opportunity in WWE?
Find out at WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live this Sunday at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# Big E & Xavier Woods vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
– Big E & Xavier Woods will look to exercise The Power of Positivity against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn when the tandems squares off at WWE Stomping Grounds.
Big E was recently forced to miss time with an injury, leading to Kevin Owens becoming an honorary member of The New Day and receiving the nickname “Big O” from the pancake-flinging faction. KO soon revealed his true colors, however, turning on WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in brutal fashion and securing a title bout against The Dreadlocked Dynamo, an edge-of-your-seat affair that saw the titleholder retain against KO at WWE Money in the Bank.
Although Owens has steadfastly denied playing a role in the assault of Big E, who was attempting to return from a knee injury, the New Day powerhouse hasn’t bought KO’s claims and has been looking to get a piece of him ever since. Now at WWE Stomping Grounds, he will finally get his opportunity to do just that.
Tune in when a finally healthy New Day duke it out with the meddlesome Owens & Zayn in a surefire slugfest at WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live this Sunday at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.# WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese vs. Akira Tozawa vs. Drew Gulak (Triple Threat Match)
– At WWE Stomping Grounds, WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese will face his greatest challenge to date when he battles two of his toughest rivals – Akira Tozawa and Drew Gulak – in a Triple Threat Match.
Since defeating Buddy Murphy for the WWE Cruiserweight Title at WrestleMania, Tony Nese has been a fighting champion, never backing down from a challenge and retaining against the likes of Ariya Daivari and Murphy and also besting Gulak in non-title competition. With The Premier Athlete hungry for his next challenger, several Cruiserweights set out to make their case for a title opportunity, and Tozawa took the bull by the horns by defeating Oney Lorcan, The Brian Kendrick, Mike Kanellis and Ariya Daivari in a frenetic Fatal 5-Way Match last month. Nese was more than willing to defend his title against Tozawa, but WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick – seemingly distracted by his quest for the 24/7 Championship — did not make the match.
As Tozawa prepared to battle Noam Dar to further his case, a returning Drew Gulak attacked The Scottish Supernova and defeated The Stamina Monster in an impromptu bout, once again complicating the title picture.
Facing criticism for his handling of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship situation, Maverick then announced a Fatal 4-Way Match featuring Gulak, Tozawa, Humbert Carrillo and Lorcan to determine who would challenge The Premier Athlete. Following a controversial ending in which Tozawa and Gulak each scored a pinfall, both were declared victorious.
As a result, Nese will defend the Cruiserweight Title against Gulak and Tozawa in a Triple Threat Match. Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network to find out who will leave as champion!
